The freezer section pick has been around for several years, but it’s currently enjoying a boost in popularity thanks to TikTok, because people on the social media platform are using the bite-sized morsels to whip up a ridiculously easy meal that’s been aptly dubbed, chicken wonton soup. Though it’s not exactly clear when this savory soup recipe first found its way to social media, TikTokers have been sharing different versions of it over the past several months. In its simplest form, this easy soup recipe is made with three (or sometimes four) Trader Joe’s favorites—the aforementioned wontons, some Miso Ginger Broth, and the Crunchy Chili Onion sauce. In the TikTok below, which was posted earlier this month, a user named Kelsey (who goes by the handle @traderjoesfoodreviews) uses that tasty trio as the base of her soup. She also adds chopped zucchini and green onions, which makes the simple meal a bit more filling, and adds some hearty fiber to the mix. “There’s a reason why this chicken wonton soup went viral,” she explains at the start of the video, which has already been viewed nearly 300,000 times. As you can see, the soup takes just minutes to make, and according to Kelsey, is pretty darn delicious. In the comments section, other TikTok users shared their own versions of this viral soup, proving that it’s pretty popular. Some mentioned adding bok choy, while others noted that they make the soup with additions such as spinach, celery, and a dash of Trader Joe’s Umami Seasoning Blend. And if you don’t want to do the extra work it takes to chop up some fresh veggies, you can turn to another beloved Trader Joe’s item in a pinch—the Stir-Fry Vegetables. The veggie medley, which you can find in the freezer section, includes carrots, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and sugar snap peas. Translation: It’s the perfect hassle-free addition to this already easy soup recipe. According to TikTok user @lovelydelites, the veggie-filled version is “really good” and is ready in less than 10 minutes. “I highly recommend trying it,” she added, noting that she also adds a squeeze of lime to the soup, as well as some of the Crunchy Chili Onion.
